Highly contagious is an underestimate.

Listening to a specialist in Infectious Diseases, he compared getting a pneumonia from the feared Pneumococci bacteriae, a person with a normal immune system needs to be colonized with a quarter of a million bacteriae (i.e. coughing straight in your face). A person with GE, this time of the year most common norovirus, in the summer and fall calicivirus, coughing after vomiting, there will be microdrops in the air of the room for up to 30 min, each of which contains up to 1.5 million virus particles, whereof you need more than 10 (t-e-n !), but less than 15 to be infected.

If none else but OP & hubby were affected, it could have been someone coughing anywhere around them, NY subway, airport security and many more...
