I don't see this being a problem - present both PNRs at check-in and AA should be able to check you all the way through. Use the Flight Connections bus to get yourself to T5 and pop yourself into Galleries First.
As noted above, if your incoming flight is delayed and you miss conformance (clearing T5 security 35 minutes before your flight), BA will offload you, but in your circumstances will most likely accommodate you on the next flight.

We are flying BA to BUD 3 days later from what I read the London Pass will get us to LHR as long as we don't use the express.
Assuming that the travel part of the London Pass is equivalent to a zones 1-6 Travelcard, it'll cover all rail services on this map - with a notable exception being the Heathrow Express and Heathrow Connect between Hayes & Harlington and Heathrow Airport.

Coming from Gatwick, this means buying a single ticket from the airport to the first station inside the London fare zones (Coulsdon South - it should be £5.70). Going to Heathrow, your ticket will be valid on the Piccadilly Line all the way to T5; or you can take the Heathrow Connect and pay the £5.20 from Hayes & Harlington to Heathrow Central. You'll then need to change trains for the Heathrow Express to Terminal 5.
