We loved this property although it gets very busy at weekends. We arrived midweek one paid 1 bed suite night and 6 nights standard redemption and had the upgraded room for the entire stay. We also had one of the larger 1 bed suites which was appreciated.
Staff were friendly and helpful and broadly genuinely willing to help. The shuttle service was good and since we flew to and from MMH we managed to avoid a weeks car rental bill which more than offset the resort fee and daily tips to the shuttle driver.
We REALLY liked Mammoth which is a far better ski area than we ever expected and really good fun during the week before the weekend crowds arrived.
The much discussed steps up and down to the gondola appears to be much exaggerated here. Whilst I tend to board rather than ski these days and thus have better boots for dealing with steps on the way down it is really easy to navigate the steps and even on the way back up the steps there is no real issue. We saw some guests taking the shuttle from the hotel to the gondola base and waiting in excess of 15 minutes instead of taking a walk of 3 minutes, which we thought was a little pathetic.
this is the first property where I have taken advantage of the "make a green choice" incentive which felt worthwhile given the 1000 SPG points per night incentive. For this kind of stay it seemed reasonable (and easy ) to avoid a few days of housekeeping albeit I would not choose to do this on a very short stay or at the standard 500 point incentive.
The only bad points I would highlight are noted elsewhere here I think. This is yet another Westin property which considers shower gel to be a request item. Why should this be? The $10 Whitebark discount as platinum recognition beyond the resort fee was a little poor. Why not offer a % discount for the entire stay that would be a more worthwhile benefit and may encourage greater guest spend in Whitebark during the quieter midweek period? Finally although we like Whitebark a lot I had a tagine for dinner one evening which was recognisable as a tagine only by the dish it was served in, otherwise it was effectively a roast dinner. One final point was that the outdoor hottubs might have been better maintained, there was considerable debris within one of them which did not seem to be cleared on a daily basis.
All said though this is a great property. I am just trying to find a way to make a 2 bed luxury suite a little more affordable for our next stay
