You still have only an 'either/or ' option at the payment screen so there is still no 'mixed mode' of payment possible.

All that has happened is that you can top-up your APD account to the exact amount desired for a purchase using APD. Of course, you gotta hope that the fare is still available at that price whilst you move the money around. So not helpful for auction, GAS sales and other promos.
