I don't know about the charge you are talking about but if you are that desperate to avoid it why not pay for your ticket via internet banking?

I still don't understand why someone would buy a ticket this way. If you use Airpoints to buy a ticket you don't earn any Airpoints Dollars (not sure about Status Points)
