after 3/3 (or whenever they actually get it merged) you will only have one number, your CO number. They will continue to cross reference them though, but your MP number is going away.

The risk of not linking them is you are relying on the system to figure out which United Account matches which Continental Account instead of you which two accounts should be linked. It probably won't be an issue for the majority of people, but I'm sure there will be some mixups.
