Wrote RJ in NYC and they confirmed free hotel voucher for force layover and we do have to leave our passport at the airport.

On our 2nd transit, we will just buy visa, enter Jordan, rent a car and drive to Petra. Probably will get there at 4am, sleep in the parking lot waiting for them to open at 6am.
