On reflection, it probably is just a standard practice for reservations staff to follow, as it would be far easier for you to exit an aircraft, in an emergency, from an aisle seat. However it is not something that is a requirement, so just continue to request a window from reservations or the crew.
Absolutely no offence to Blindy, but in an emergency it's going to be way better for everyone if the blind person is next to the window, and not one of the first into the aisle.
