I bet you have saved up some Avios (miles) now and from reading this thread, using your Avios (miles) to upgrade is the best way of using them, have you tried this because then of course your meal would be transferred and become Club catering. Upgrades due to overselling happen last minuite and that's why the special meal becomes a problem and really lessens your chance.
