I understand your frustration. I, like you, learned about this rule the hard way last week...not in India, but Nigeria! It was a painful experience, but eventually remedied with some sweet talk and pleas of ignorance.

My new rule is to have a printed itin for every country going forward. Sorry to hear of your experience.
