American Airlines does not have any flights in Cambodia.
From Siem Reap there exists only a Bangkok Airways flight to Bangkok that is rather expensive.
From Phnom Penh there are Air Asia and Thai Airways that both fly to Bangkok.
From Kuala Lumpur on Air Asia the OP can travel to Chiang Mai, Hat Yai, Krabi, Phuket, Surat Thani or Bangkok.
He mentions a 12:45 flight which matches up with Chiang Mai. So he has to make a connection no matter what.
