A free status match would be better but SgtRyan is stuck with a paid trial for quick status (two r/t to LAS would secure Silver for the year) or waiting to fly the miles for free status on US. If the IAG purchase of BD is still go, it's at least a possibility that AA would give a status match since it'll all be in OW. The other option is a possible match to UA, but neither UA nor AA would provide many benefits on US.

There may be a way to transfer his miles from BD to US - points.com maybe - but from what I've read the conversion rate is horrible.
