I have a confirmed CW ticket on BA28 flying out of HKG to LHR tonight. Online check-in has been unsuccessful all day. I phoned BA HK call centre for that matter. I was told that the flight would be on schedule but is quite full so some passengers might not be offered online check-in. Airport check-in is the only option. What does that mean? What could happen to me? Should I go to the airport as early as possible to make sure I could fly as scheduled?
It might mean that your cabin is already overbooked.
Don't worry though, it just means they will check you in at the airport. It could mean an upgrade but it also could mean that they upgrade someone with higher status and put you in their seat. Sometimes they don't actually need to upgrade. It might be that others with flexi tickets actually cancel or dont actually checkin but at the moment they have a seat pre-selected. They will wait to nearer the departure to check the latest situation and then they will know where to seat you.
I would check in at just a reasonable time and don't worry, it may work out that you get a really nice seat!
