To answer your thread question; yes you got lied to but not maliciously. If I was in this agents' position I would have been up front with you and said we ran out of cars and I can pro-rate your price. (I.E. I will lower you rate to as if you booked an B or C depending on my mood and your gold status.)

In my experience if anyone at any Hertz tells you anything like "we ran out of cars" and you got a contract and keys consider yourself lucky.

The agent was not doing themselves any favors by charging that much money for a prestige car upgrade. Considering the situation I feel they offered a large amount of money for the upgrade but that is their discretion.

My location recently had a similar situation where we didn't have correct vehicles. So all C reservations beyond 9pm received loaded Versa's (with pl/pw, remote and CC.) Also all F reservations got minivans.
