I've returned recently from an Oahu trip booked mainly with points and cash. Holiday Inn Beachcomber @15,000 points plus $60 per night and 1 additional night free as credit card renewal bonus (5 nights total). They upgraded me to ocean view, too. Points and cash can also be booked at the several Sheratons in the area and Hilton Hawaiian Village. It's a way to stretch your points and also lessen the local taxes which you would incur on an all cash booking. I also did some all point bookings at Turtle Bay ( north side of Oahu) and Hawaii Prince (Waikiki) using BA "Avios". I had found the Avios difficult to use for flights, but easy to use for hotel bookings.
