SYD/AKL/MEL-ICN-LAX/JFK would be fine, as there's a published KE fare with that routing (well, at least for LAX, and I presume for JFK). The problem would be doing something like DTW-DL-West Coast-AS-HNL-KE-ICN-KE-SYD, as I can't imagine who has a published fare of that type, so you'd probably be subjected to DL's MPM. If there is a published fare with that routing and carrier combination, however, you should be OK to book it, in theory.
