Hello!
My situation is slightly complicated, so I'll try to boil it down.
Currently I carry a CPAP (medical device), which measures 13" long by 6" high by 7" wide (plus hose, mask and cord), in its own carrying case. Although medical devices are (I understand) exempt from the two-bag limit, I always check my suitcase anyway, having read that airline staff frequently don't follow this.
I'd like to change to one carry-on for everything, except my laptop which is in my briefcase. Making this change involves getting the right bag, and adopting the right packing strategy. I've had good luck rolling up my clothes, so I think this is possible. While I'm at it, I'd like to buy "the last bag I'll ever buy," so I can avoid going through this exercise again.
My current thought is to get the 20" B&R Baseline. I would put the CPAP at the very bottom, then the mask and my toiletries above that, and finally my clothes and etc. I'm torn between the Baseline and the TravelPro Platinum 7, since there's a $100 price difference and the Platinum warranty is
supposed to be just as good.
The last piece of the puzzle is securing the CPAP, which is often removed and sniffed for explosives. Repacking the bag is a huge hassle. So I'm thinking of putting a divider across the bag, 6" from the bottom, so the device can slide in and out. However, I have no idea how to find a divider for that purpose. The closest I've found are the
Pelican dividers for camera equipment, but (1) they only fit in a 22" bag, and (2) I'm not positive they'll do exactly what I want. Some kind of movable divider with velcro would be perfect...
So any answer to one or more of the following would help me immensely:
1) B&R 20" Baseline, or TravelPro 20" Platinum 7?
2) Any way to install a divider to hold my medical device conveniently?
3) Or am I nuts, and is there a better way to secure the CPAP and easily repack it after the bomb-sniffer is done?
Thanks!
