??? You already had it, depending on how exactly it was phrased, was probably referring to the past. Having had a Delta Gold card in the past may keep your from being able to apply (with bonus) for it in the future, at least for a certain amount of time (which may not have passed in your case).
So it may have had nothing to do with your Hilton card, and simply have had to do with timing.
