Never had it happen on UA in 50+ flights. I think it has more to do with DL not having enough active gates as well as the fact they have to deal with the "Tow in" situation because the alley there is narrow. UA does not tow in to the inner gates ...at least not that I have experienced. BOS-LAX was a 757 and came into gate 73 last night and we taxied right in 1/2 hour early.

It could be the padding on DL's flights too. One of the nice things I have noticed is that on UA I am consistently 15-30 minutes early. DL typically cuts it much closer than that even when they are ahead of schedule.
