V few airlines actually make their own kosher meals as they are bought in due to the fact they have to be blessed by a rabbi etc so its cheaper to bring them in . instead of ordering a kosher meal just order a SPML and specify no pork, unless you require a kosher meal for religious reasons just go with the SPML.much better .
I didn't realise that could be done i.e. just asking for a pork free meal? For me its not a religious issue but I didn't see any other option than to go for Kosher/halal because by nature they are pork free. Is this option over and above what is set out below?

Re. the post above, re. ordering Halal meals - reminds me of a funny moment a few years ago when my friend ordered Halal because he likes spicy food/curries and thought the Halal option was more likely to be so. The momentary hesitation (and almost barely noticeable mouth opening as if to say "what?") on the FA's face when he ordered copious amounts of booze (which is definitely not Halal!!) to go with it was hilarious
