At any given time, the upgrade list only shows the position relative to THOSE THAT HAVE CHECKED IN FOR THE FLIGHT. All this means is that in between when you check the night before and when you reach the airport, a bunch of pax with higher upgrade priorities have checked in, bumping you down the list.
