A Diamond Force is a 48 guarantee, therefore, there is not doubt the hotel may have thought the OP was going to be a no show (for whatever reason).
It could be stuck for weather, flight delay or just in a situation that could not call or forgot to call.
I think it's always safest to call ahead when arriving this late. Midnight is a late arrival and should at least be listed in the comments section.
But, in any event, it's nice all ended well for the OP and the hotel was able to accommodate.
