I must say the OP doesn't (in the end) have much to complain about - he gets a room at a price he would have probably been relatively happy to pay in the first place.
The only real puzzle in the story is how the hotel comes to be attempting to walk a Diamond in the first place. I understood that walking Diamonds was always a last resort. So what happened here? They must have had a fair idea he was definitely coming - you don't go to the trouble of a Diamond Force if you're not going to show - do you?
