anyone else been "downgraded"
At the FLL beach resort hilton (which is a great property0. Decided I needed to get away for a weekend to someplace warm so came here (and weather couldnt be better for a warm weather escape) and had something happen to me friday I have never had happen at Hilton before. My room was downgraded.
I did a Diamond force for $449 a night. Wasnt that happy paying that much but wanted to really get away and was splitting the3 room so figured it wasnt too bad seeing the Bentleye is $1K a night next month and it is suppose to be an all suites hotel.
I arrive and was told there were no rooms that night and they were going to find us alternative accomodations nearby and our suite would be ready Saturday. I really wasnt in the mood to get walked since iit was so late and wanted to get to Wilton Manor to eat and iit was already almost midnight. Thanks to FT I knew I was to get compensated $200 if I was walked. I told the clerk I wasnt really in the mood to get walked but I expected Hilton to pay the accomodations and taxi to the new hotel (she said i would be walked to a non-hilton 2 blocks away and they would pay it) and II also wanted my internet and breakfast comped and she said she would have to check with her manager but if I wanted she could give me a voucher to eat at the Hilton saturday. I told her I k new I was also entitled to cash compensation as a diamond and it used to be $100 and I heard it was $200 now and she knew nothing about it. She seemed clueless on the HH system for walking.
She got who I assume was her manager to come up front and he apologized and saaid his policy is to never walk a higher HH member and they try not to walk anyone at all. He said if I was happy not being in a suite they had a two bedroom suite and the second bedroom to that was free and it would be more like a regular hotel room but he would give it to us for $159 a night and we wouldnt have a microwave but he would send up a mini fridge. it was a separately keyted hotel room but was at the end and there was another suite beside it tand another locked door separating those two rooms from the hallway.
I am not complaining since I savaed $250 a night and only thing I really mnissed about not having a suite was the balcony since I enjoy sitting on those in the momrning to read or at late night.
I also think its strange hilton doesnt market the single rooms. I have never seen t hose on their sites. If the suites isnt going to sell as a 2-br suite seems like it would make sense for hilton to try selling that room as a regular room
