It'll vary by operator, but the standard-issue atrium-block ES paradigm has got to be 25 years old. A lot of them are tired. And bear in mind ES attracts a lot of kids, so endures more abuse. Every ES I'm in seems to have a roadtripping junior hockey team storming the place. But I stayed in one on the DTW perimeter last summer that broke that mold, it was a recently repurposed property with a lot of interesting design fillips, and thought it was terrific.
Very true. Some properties are showing their age. Though the ES in Ontario, CA is different from the norm. The property is a new design and was constructed withhout the atrium and glass elevators that ES is known for.
