Upper Deck vs First Class

I flew in F the other day for the 1st time in about 4 years - normally I fly J and generally am quite successful at getting Upper Deck. The flight left at 2330 from Lagos and is a 6 hour flight, and as I had work the next day in London sleeping was quite important to me.

What struck me, as I struggled to get to sleep, was that F is actually quite noisy compared to UD. In CW they throw some rubbish food at you and more or less let you go to sleep, but in F the service seemed quite a lot better, which meant that the background noise went on for longer. So despite the better seat and the nice duvet and pillow and pyjama's, it took me an age to doze off. Moreover, I found the eye cover quite annoying as it had 2 little flaps which I guess are designed to keep that little bit extra light out, but in fact just felt odd and annoying.

I am sure on a longer flight or a day flight I would have had a much better experience...but really the whole experience drove home to me how great the UD is for night flights.
