My husband and I want to travel to Vietnam in Dec 2012 with our 2 sons. We have about 150,000 on Delta and another 160,000 on AmEx Membership Rewards. So far I have only been able to find 2 tickets @ 130,000 each so we will have to pay for the other 2 tickets.
I have several questions;
1. can we book the whole thing through AmEx or do we have to transfer the AmEx miles to Delta to use them together?
2. can we call the partner airlines directly to book or do we have to do it through Delta?
3. if it's easier to get to BKK or HKG and then connect to SGN can we book the connections under the same miles or will we have to use separate miles for the connections? Can we book those later?
4. would it be better to buy tickets on VN and use our miles to upgrade? How likely is that to happen?
