I'm not completely sure but I think what he meant was that its one of those routes when buying a one-way ticket turns out as, or even more expensive than a return, so you shouldn't buy a one-way ticket. Instead you should buy a return ticket and 'skive' off the return segment and it would work out cheaper.
On most flights I've ever looked at for one ways, which admittedly hasn't been many over the years, that has been true.
