You know you dont have to pack the kitchen sink for a vacation. I have a wife and two kids and we regularly go with 2 regular size suitcases and 1 carryon for all 4 of us for a 10 day trip. If we are throwing in diving, then a 3rd bag of crap gets added, but that's it. We plan on doing laundry once or twice on the trip. All hotels and cruise ships have some sort of laundry facility that will cost subsantially less than $60 in checked bag fees a person.

I hope to not start a flame war, but folks who feel like they need to bring 2 large suitcases per person is one reason why airlines charge for bags now. I for one am happy they charge.

On business I regularly can fit 4-5 days of clothes (including suits) plus toiletries, 2 laptops, ipad and work folio into a single carryon bag and smallish computer backpack. Another helpful trick is to always wear whatever the most bulky item you need is. My wife loves her 5" high heel boots, but she always wears them on the plane so they dont take up 1/4 of a suitcase.

Totally agree, when we fly home we buy a lot in the trip because of better prices on all in MIA than in EZE.
