This has been asked in previous threads; some properties will request photo ID (driver license, etc.) and some will require credit cards. Others may not require either, relying on the credit card in your HHonors record and booking (if you have one). The requirements may vary depending on local laws and ordinances and property policies. (OTOH I can't think of anyone traveling without some identification and some kind of credit card...)
