One of the basic tricks of the trade is to concentrate as much flying as possible with one airline's program. With your travel pattern, it shouldn't be difficult to reach 100,000 miles/year with one airline (in your case, it seems United is a good fit). The combination of free upgrade certificates and mileage should keep you in front quite a bit!
