This one is an interesting envelope. Spiced meat -- chicken or minced mutton, even bheja (brain) -- and whipped eggs with masala-fied fried onions enveloped in a square shaped dough and pan fried. Though served with sliced onion rings and green chutney, they're delicious even without accompaniment.

A lot of people swear by the Baida Roti at Bade Mian, Tullock Road, Behind Taj Mahal Hotel, Apollo Bunder, evenings only. Tel: +91 (0) 22 2284 8038

This is right behind your hotel and it is HOPPING at nighttime (only at night) -- even top list Bollywood stars come to eat here. IT IS AMAZING !!
Anaggie - I have never had the Baita Roti at Bade Miya (which is the place you are referring to and the one I also mentioned), and will be sure to do my best to try it. Otherwise, they make some great fresh romali rotis that go well with everything else they do.

Travelmad - I really like all of those high end places, but I can only take it in so many doses. Sometimes you just want to relax and have some regular food, surrounded by (relatively) normal people in a (relatively) normal setting. Although I love the FS, to me I still like the feel of the Taj and the Oberoi (even post renovation - yes it was needed, but the lobby also feels much more cold than it used to) more. However, service at the FS and its facilities (at least what I use) have always been fantastic, as well as the rates (on a relative basis). Given that the location is most convenient for what I do (meeting investment firms) its in a great location so that I can tap into the folks in Worli/Parel, take the sealink and hit BKC, or trudge down to the last few groups that are in Nariman...

I also have a soft spot for the FS since it was those guys a few years back who recommended Sri Krishna to me when their boss wasn't looking. They tried the old "try our hotel restaurant or trishna/khyber etc" but when I told them I wanted something else, had eaten at regular places and did not mind hot roadside stuff and was from the South, two of the front desk staff leaned over the counter and whispered "Sri Krishna, it's a place where we eat" and gave me directions. Funny thing was, I came back to the hotel an hour later, post meal and was greeted by a number of the staff with a smile and with a "Welcome back Mr. Jamoldo, did you enjoy Sri Krishna?"
