Trying to book a simple F award from DTW-DFW for my mother. Calender shows low on most days, including every day I am looking for. Every combination of days I tried priced out at Medium (80k) instead of Low (50k).
After wasting an hour trying various combinations, I e-mailed Delta out of frustration.
Here is the reply (sent after 15 minutes):
Dear Mr. James318,
RE: Case Number XXXXXXXX
Thank you for your e-mail describing the problem you experienced.
Online booking allows you to arrange your travel safely and securely by providing you with real-time schedule and fare information. Each Delta flight has numerous fare structures for every flight segment offered. Our lowest priced fares are limited per each segment and once sold out are no longer available. When reviewing fares, they are never guaranteed until you receive a confirmation number at the end of the booking process. In very rare cases, a fare observed while reviewing flight segment options may sell out prior to you actually finalizing your purchase with a credit card. I am very sorry that the fare you originally observed was no longer available for your travel itinerary once you were ready to purchase the ticket, and I can certainly understand your disappointment.
Again, although this happens on rare occasions, here are some tips to ensure you are able to secure the lowest priced fares:

We appreciate your Medallion status and trust your future flights will be enjoyable. We hope you will continue to make Delta your airline of choice.

I know, I know. First rule of the DL forum... Attack the OP. If I want an F ticket I should pay for one. Oh, wait. I'm trying to. And I realize that 4 people here will pull up F awards for "the first dates they tried" at 50K. That's still no excuse for the award calender being broken.
I also know this is rehashing an oft discussed topic, but it's worth it now and then to bring it to the forefront. Perhaps award calender improvements will be announced with the 2012 SkyMiles program.
