Really? Very strange indeed if you are 1K/Platinum. I have had just the opposite luck, getting upgraded 100% of the time (and from a hub, IAD, no less). If you think partners are the way to go, more power to you. I will stick with UA, the airline that has always been good to me - and has improved since CO took the reins of control. Just my experience. YMMV.
