The comment was open to wide interpretation, and it appears the FA did not help put it in a larger context. That was dumb.
Not dumb at all. The OP didn't suggest that the FA were anything but sincere. That people get offended by something they deem as mean is their problem.
Nothing was offensive. Pilots are nearly 100% male. If you're upset with that fact, then admit it. To be upset at the FA is misplaced annoyance IMHO.
The funny part is if she were to have said with the same enthusiasm that the pilot is a "gentleman!", what would have been people's responses? Calling him a gentleman would make me wonder if the majority of pilots are a bunch of immature guys.
