Any stopover on an international award ticket only occurs if 24 hours or longer, including domestic stopovers. I did a domestic connection (<24 hours) on a ticket to Europe just last year. Also remember, you also get an open jaw as well - a very key provision that greatly increases the value of DL awards, especially international awards.
