You need to do book the cook if you want a proper meal. Even in First, SQ is not having much on the menu - unwelcome suprise for people taking those flights for the first time.
This has changed. On SQ231, taken mid-January, the first item on menu was a substantial main. First half of menu below (I took a photo of the menu, as I was surprised):
Seared beef fillet in cabernet butter, assorted vegetables, sauteed fingerling potato with onion, crispy pork and sage.
Warm foccaccia with roasted herb chicken, cheddar cheese and grilled vegetables
Singapore fried carrot cake
A hearty traditional dish of fried savoury radish-rice pudding with prawns and pickled turnip
American Breakfast
