- There is rarely a location I have been (maybe Guam springs to mind) that has a Marriott and Hilton, but no IHG property.

Yes and No.
Yes - IHG has plenty of properties spreading out all over the world. Especially in rural area close to National Parks in the US (it's hard to find Marriotts for nights close to National Park).
No - IHG's properties are not as consistent as Marriott's. I have stayed at an IC that is worse than any Marriott I stayed at.
