I can't recall for sure, but I think there is an escalator option at Port Maillot if you come up across the street in the mall. And there are also escalator options at Chatelet where you change to line 1.

Sorry, but a taxi isn't really an option from Chatelet and from Gare du Nord you will have to wait a while for a taxi in most cases.
