I think that you are confusing qualification/re-qualification with the status challenge. Something like what you state is correct for status challenge completion. However, for "regular" Diamond qualification/requalification, if you qualify anytime in 2012 (up to 12/31/2012), your status would be through 2/2014 (remainder of the qualification/requalification year, the entire following year, and the 2 months of the year after that).
