The thing is, for this hotel, I don't think it is unexpected. They close the lounge in the evenings, as a matter of policy, three nights a week!
What was most disappointing was that for this particular hotel I first raised this issue in Nov 2011 when I first experienced it. In Dec, when I stayed again I was told that the 3 days a week lounge closure was a one-off and that I should have been given vouchers in lieu (but wasn't). Now, two weeks ago, I faced exactly the same issue. They even managed to avoid giving the vouchers for a guest in a paid club room!
The most worrying part is that in this hotel the duty manager I interacted with just didn't seem to care at all either!
