However, what about flights that are mainly over the Atlantic Ocean for eg? I hear that perhaps the tail of the plane is the first to sink, and that on some planes the rear emergency exit is not accessible when a water landing takes place...So would that make choosing a rear seat for a transatlantic flight one of the most dangerous?

if you go into the Atlantic you are dead ...just leave it at that and take comfort in the fact that you are more likely to be hit by lightning 8 times in a row than to ditch in the Atlantic. Honestly...there are much better things to worry about.
