A while back, I was reading Murakami's
Underground about the sarin attacks in the Tokyo subway. One scene -- and remember, these are all actual accounts -- has a bunch of the injured with vision problems, paralyzed limbs, breathing difficulties etc staggering/being ferried into a nearby hospital. What's the hospital's idea of first aid? Hook 'em all up to IV drips.

No hope of understanding the public's (or the doctors' for that matter) understanding of medicine here. They go to the doctor for a cold. Unbelievable really. Everything from prenatal to pediatrics to specialists. Emergency care and trauma, and then end of life. All very very frightening here. Love the country but the medical care is beyond a joke.
