All good points. On this particular trip, I wanted to stay downtown to be within walking distance of places I mean to visit. So I booked the downtown Doubletree hotel with the Any Weekend, Anywhere rate for $149/night, which, admittedly, is not as cheap as the ones you mention, but a good compromise, I think.
