Even in Florida application of the four-hour rule seems patchy. I mentioned it on pick-up yesterday as I could run over my hand-back time. The agent was adamant that 29 minutes was the rule for all rentals, and NO I couldn't get any upgrade.
The reservation was quite specific in quoting AMEX PLAT link.
The upgrade is of no importance at all, but i don't want to pay for an extra day's rental, so
finally persuaded the agent to speak to his manager. Luckily, the manager HAD heard something on the lines of the four-hour privilege, and annotated my booking to OK a delayed hand-over.
We'll see what happens when i return the car.
This was a full-blown mainstream Hertz station at an international airport (remains nameless to protect the innocent!) not some provincial agency.
