The Salsa line being polycarbonate, is more flexible than the Topas. The outer case wall of the aluminum models are more rigid than the Salsa, providing a more protection for your contents. If it is normal travel wear inside, then the Salsa line might be the choice to make. If it might be electronics, glassware, or something of value that might be carried someday, then the Topas would be a better consideration.

Both standout visually, a comon feature of the Rimowa cases. Your case is easy to see, compared to the army of black travel luggage out there. You will be complimented ( and yes, envied ) for your choice by travelers and airline staff.

Another consideration is Longevity and Repairs: It is easier to repair the Topas models, say for corner dents, or case aiingments, rather than the Salsa. The Salsa and Salsa Air case corners can be fractured with rough handling, a condition not unknown to many airports today. For that reason alone the Topas may ultimately outlive the Salsa model, when considered against the cost differences.

Choices, choices, choices . . . .
Hmmm... After
1) Reading your post
2) Having my prospective purchase of the LV duffel ridiculed by a female friend of mine

I may drop 3 and just do topas for both my carryon and my larger luggage
