talk to an Aeroplan Supervisor and stand your ground! They are able to make magic at their discretion

Anyway...We logged on to Air Canada today to check our seat assignments, and noticed a bunch of changes. It looked like there had been changes made 3 or 4 times. My husand called Aeroplan. He asked why we hadn't been notified of the changes. He was told that the airlines are expecting a bunch of changes so they have all stopped notifying people of changes. ???

The nitty gritty is this: The United flight we were on no longer exists. We now have an eight hour layover in SF. (We originally had a five hour layover, and we figured that was going to be long enough.) On top of five hours to SFO, 8 hours in SF, and another five hour flight...man oh man that is going to be some long day. We have to leave home at 4 am, which just adds to this extremely long day. (We have paid for a private condo rental so changing our itinerary is difficult. Going the day day before, yes, but that's it.)

I have logged onto Aeroplan and there is a flight through LAX on the same day, but it is for 60,000 points now, not the 40 we used.

I am wondering what our options are before I speak to Aeroplan again.

Can I push for a schedule change to the LAX flight with no fee?

Can I push for an upgrade so we can at least sleep? If so, do I deal with Aeroplan or United for that request - since the final leg is United?

Any thoughts, suggestions, would be most appreciated. Also, any tips on how to deal with the agent would be great...anything that would make it more likely to get a change approved.
