Barcelona AC Sants [Master Thread]

Partial trip report on the AC Sants hotel in Barcelona. Update later.

I'm currently staying at the AC Sants - checked in this morning after the redeye from JFK. Our flight was early - got here about 8 AM - yet they did have a room ready. Rates were 90E for Sat night and slightly over 100E for Sunday night. Decent price.

Hotel is located adjacent to the Sants train station, making it very convenient for both the airport train and the Green metro line. It's about 15 minutes by the Green Line to La Rambla, about 1/3 of which is walking from the hotel to the subway. Airport trains are convenient & inexpensive.

Note on transportation: most flights (certainly the international ones) arrive at Terminal 1. The train station is at Terminal 2. The terminals are far enough apart that you cannot walk. Follow the signs to "Connections" and look for the terminal transfer shuttle bus. This is a free bus - it's well marked with a lighted sign & there's a curbside signpost. Take the bus to terminal 2, enter the terminal, and turn right. Follow the signs to "Renfe". You can get a train ticket there to Sants - under 4 Euro. Take the train to the "Barna Sants" station & find your way out the "back" side of the station (direction of the taxi queue & rental car counters). Exit the train station & look toward your left, the hotel is obvious.

Hotel has 4 floors with about 25 rooms per floor. It is co-branded as Marriott. As with Marriott policy, no breakfast included, nor is there a lounge. I was offered a Platinum arrival gift (I chose points) & I was offered internet access for no charge. Internet is wi-fi, you will receive an access code upon check-in. I VPN back to the States so I'm not really worried about security.

The hotel is avant garde - guests will either love it or hate it. My room is "eclectic" - top floor, king bed "pointy" end of hotel facing train station. The windows on the north side have been painted into art work - these two windows can be opened. Desk, leather covered desk chair, small set of drawers that doubles as suitcase stand, and a "stressless" lounge chair & foot stool make up the furniture. Walls are basically white striped wallpaper except for the headboard which is grey leather and dark glass.

Floor is wood laminate, not carpet. The bathroom sink is open to the room (no door), with a toilet room (with door) to the left, and shower (dark glass) to the right. If you're staying here with someone concerned about privacy climbing into/out of the shower, then it will be a concern because the shower opens into the sink area.

Staff is nice and has been helpful in giving directions and recommending restaurants. Street outside is not particularly noisy (except for the brass band that started rehearsing about 11:30 Saturday AM). There is limited room service available.

Personally, I like the hotel for this stay. I might think differently if I were here on business or I were willing to spend the extra money to stay right in town. That said, for a weekend where I'm doing general tourist stuff & looking for an inexpensive option, this is perfect. It's not the Ritz Carleton warm furnishings, nor the cookie-cutter Marriott furnishings, and it doesn't have the view that the W hotel has.... if you expect those, one of the other choices in town is probably better.
