If you get stopped or in an accident the card will show that your coverage extends to Canada. If you don't get stopped then there is no problem. They do not check when you cross the border.
Do you know about the website to check border crosiing times? This can make a big difference on which bridge to take. And make sure to have money to pay the toll going into Canada - no fee to come back (unless you are walking).
