Reading through the TripAdvisor reviews for The Milford Plaza (which seem to run the gamut), I see that hotel GM Diane Devine has responded to several reviewers and indicates that the last floors to be renovated are currently out of service, so all available rooms are now ones that have been renovated.

To me, the price and location would definitely be worth it, especially if that's the difference between being able to make the trip or not making the trip.

Also to the OP, I would sign up at www.goldstar.com for NYC because they have some great half price deals for local attractions. Also www.nycgo.com as well as www.schooltix.com and www.broadwaybox.com for deals on shows and attractions.

Also, the lobbies of many hotels have a display that have small pocket sized cards with great discounts (I know the Marriott Marquis has this)...definitely worth checking out for discounts to The Intrepid, Ripleys, Madame Tussauds, Top of the Rock, etc. as well as restaurants (we prefer the food at the Hard Rock over Planet Hollywood) and other touristy things.

Have fun
